LACE KNITTING/SHAWL WORKSHOP

Lace knitting is a style of knitting characterized by stable "holes" in the fabric arranged with consideration of aesthetic value.

Let’s knit some lace together.  This workshop will teach you how to interpret lace patterns from a CHART.

First, we will study the chart and familiarize ourselves with how to read a chart, what  the symbols are and how to execute yarn overs before a knit stitch and before a purl stitch.  We will practice a couple of decrease methods, how to use our markers and what a life line is.  You will learn the garter tab cast on method which is used in many triangular shawls.  We will also discuss blocking.

For this shawl/shawlette you have the choice of yarns depending on your preference and/or skill level.  I recommend worsted weight if you are not familiar with lace knitting.

Crochet 101 - Ongoing
Crochet or crocheting is a process where people create fabrics from yarn or a thread by using a crochet hook. The actual word has been derived from the middle French word called “croc” or “croche”, which essentially means a hook.  When you are pulling loops of yarn through other loops, this is called crochet or knitting.  However, the basic difference between crochet and knitting is that crochet will only involve one active loop at a time (with the exception for Tunisian Crochet) and also instead of a knitting needles, a crochet hook is used.

Yes you can learn how to crochet anything from a potholder to a wedding gown. We hear it all the time “I wish I could crochet but all I can do is a chain”. Well since that is the foundation of any crochet project you are off to a great start. Lets start at the very beginning.

Once you learn the crochet basics you will find it fun, relaxing and a great outlet for your creative talents. We will start at the beginning; teaching you the chain stitch than we will learn the single crochet and double crochet, half double crochet and than the treble stitch.

Dates:  See Calendar for Dates and Times

Class Price:  $35, plus cost of Materials,
